The South-West electricity REM is led by the Spanish Energy Regulator (CNE) and aims to integrate the electricity markets of France and the Iberian peninsula (MIBEL) into a single regional electricity market.
Annual electricity consumption in the South-West REM is about 800 TWh of electricity consumption, around 26% of the EU 27 electricity market.
In South-West Europe a regional integration process has been taking place since July 1998: the establishment of the Iberian Electricity Market (MIBEL), integrating the Spanish and Portuguese markets, was established in July 2007. |
